CATTERY FELIS LIMOUSI

NICE TO MEET YOU!
I would like to introduce myself
My name is Caro. Together with my family I live in Lummen, located in Limburg (Belgium).
I've been a cat owner for as long as I can remember and have always been an animal lover. So it was an obvious choice for me to become a veterinarian. Ten years ago I made my childhood dream come true and graduated as a veterinarian. Since then I have been working in a veterinary center for companion animals. I am specialised in internal medicine and of course, I also have a great interest in feline medicine.

During my first year of veterinary studies I first came across the British Shorthair. I was immediately sold!
Not long after finishing the construction of our house, Pepijn came into our lives. Our first own British Shorthair! Pepijn was soon joined by Miel, who made me fall in love with the beautiful golden color. You can find them at 'Neutered'.

Since the arrival of our two Brits, the love for this beautiful breed has only grown. I started to delve more and more into the breed, genetics, color inheritance, etc.
And then the dream of starting a cattery started to grow.... So I decided to follow the 'Cat breeder' course of Educats. And I eventually founded Felis Limousi in 2021.

There are two main reasons why breeding British Shorthair cats became my hobby:
-
First of all, I fell in love with this breed! And I would like other people to experience what a joy it is to share your home with one or more British Shorthairs.
-
The other reason is the fact that as a vet, I unfortunately see unhealthy British Shorthairs on a regular base. Health issues may vary from cardiac diseases to cysts in the kidneys, hip or knee problems, breathing problems because their nose is too short or dental issues due to malformation of the jaw. I also noticed that a lot of British Shorthair cats don't look like a British Shorthair should look. They lose their 'teddybear appearance' due to the fact that they have big ears, no cobby physique etc. These problems are often created by the so called 'backyard breeders', who breed cats without a good knowledge of the breed, without pedigrees and who don't prioritise the health and well-being of their cats.

In order to keep this magnificent breed beautiful and healthy, there's a need for responsible, ethical breeders. So I would like to contribute in doing this!
