CATTERY FELIS LIMOUSI

CATTERY POLICY
Below you will find some more information about our vision and how we work at Cattery Felis Limousi!
Cattery Felis Limousi is recognized by the government (HK number 20707239) and is a member of the breed association BCF. This means that we fully comply with Belgian legislation and all official breeding recommendations to ensure responsible breeding.

I deliberately keep the cattery small-scale because breeding is purely a hobby. Keeping it small helps maintain a calm and harmonious environment, ensuring that both adult cats and kittens receive the care and attention they deserve. Our cats are truly part of the family!

My primary goal is to breed healthy, social, and beautiful British Shorthairs that meet the breed standard. To achieve this, my breeding program is based on three key principles:

1) HEALTH

-
All breeding cats are tested for PKD via DNA and ultrasound.
-
They undergo annual screenings for FIV/FeLV and HCM. The HCM screening is conducted by certified cardiologist Veronique Liekens. More information on these diseases can be found under the ‘Health’ section.
-
We ensure that parental blood types are compatible.
-
Each breeding cat has a genetic profile for parentage verification.
-
We invest in high-quality international bloodlines to maintain genetic diversity within the breed. Pedigrees are carefully analyzed to avoid inbreeding.
-
Our queens have a maximum of one litter per year to allow sufficient recovery time.
-
A high-quality diet, proper vaccination and deworming schedules, regular veterinary check-ups, and strict hygiene are fundamental to our cattery’s health policy.

2) SOCIALIZATION

-
The kittens are raised in a home environment, ensuring they are well-socialized. From a young age, they develop a positive association with human interaction, grooming, travel in a carrier, and common household noises such as TV and vacuum cleaners. A well-socialized kitten adapts more easily to new environments and experiences.
-
By law, kittens can be rehomed from 12 weeks of age, but I choose to keep them until the age of 16 weeks. During this time, they continue learning vital skills from their mother and littermates. Studies show that kittens rehomed at 16 weeks are better equipped to handle stress later in life, reducing the risk of stress-related illnesses such as urinary problems and overgrooming.

3) BREED STANDARD

-
Our breeding queens have impressive pedigrees, with many ancestors holding champion titles ranging from Champion (Ch.) to World Champion (WCH.)
-
Our breeding program strictly follows the British Shorthair breed standard. We carefully select mating pairs to complement each other’s physical traits, ensuring that both our queens and the stud cats we choose are of exceptional quality. More information on breed characteristics can be found under the ‘British Shorthair’ section.
